Lakeland Celebrates National Volunteer Week

  • Janet Rudasill

Lakeland Cultural Arts Center is fortunate to have on board a volunteer named, Janet Rudasill. We spotlight her today and hope to give you a glance into her background. She is very important to us.

Coming from Maryland, Janet was in an empowering position with USAID, (United States Agency for International Development). USAID is the world’s premier international development agency and a catalytic actor driving development results. Its’ work advances US national security, economic prosperity and promotes a path to build self- reliance and resilience.

Janet’s volunteer service with LCAC, Warren County Senior Center and other non-profits, such as Loaves & Fishes, (Food Bank – where she is the warehouse manager) satisify her longing to give back to others. After her years of professional experience, she had too much energy and knowledge to watch life pass by. Now, however, she works on her own schedule and the benefits are not monetarial, but they do satisfy her servant heart.

Maryland is a nice place, but she always had a desire to retire to a small town life. Thanks to a relative she learned about this area. She came to NC, established a home and quickly found her spot volunteering.

She has always felt appreciated while working at LCAC and loves our family of volunteers.

Janet has two children and four grandchildren, three boys and one girl! When her grandchildren are in town they cheerfully participate with her in any volunteer effort in which she is involved….at that particular moment!!!

The next time you are at an event, please look for this happy face and give her a hug, she is an integral part of our success and will continue to be in the future.

If you have a desire to be a part of our Littleton, NC town, and the Lakeland Cultural Arts Center, there is no better way than to be a volunteer. We want you and need you!

    Thank you Janet!

  • Clyde Johnston

This week we are also spotlighting another longtime volunteer, Clyde Johnston.

Clyde was reared in Littleton. His graduating class of 1975 was the last one to graduate from Littleton High School.

He enjoys his volunteer job of ushering because he gets to see all his old friends and also to be a part of every event in which he is involved.

There are many roles to fill at Lakeland Cultural Arts Center, however, ushering people to the right seats with a big smile always brings joy to our patrons.

Clyde has been associated with the theatre group since they had an area called, "The Lounge" - mainly it was a concession area, but the same people always gathered together before the shows. Clyde says he misses some of the old traditions but is pleased with the success of our newly developed emphasis on art and theatre in Littleton.

During his free time if Clyde is not at LCAC he is either volunteering for the Littleton Volunteer Fire Department or working hard as a commissioner for the Town of Littleton. On the commission, his area of interest is finance, bringing his expertise to ensure the towns' monies are appropriated correctly. Never one to sit on the sidelines he brings his love of Littleton and his desire to serve others to the forefront of his busy life.

In 2001, Clyde and his partner R. J. Myrick opened their insurance agency, Roanoke Valley Insurance Company, to serve to surrounding area.

Their knowledge of the area gives confidence and trust to their clients. His agency primarily focuses on property and casualty insurance.

On the weekends you can find him at the Littleton Baptist Church, as a member of the choir (a volunteer of course) where he sings the melody of his life -

giving again and again. Clyde - we salute you and all you give to others.

Thank you from Lakeland Cultural Arts Center and everyone in Littleton. You are our gift.

Next time you see his smiling face - give him a big thank you from all of us.

Volunteers are vital here at Lakeland Cultural Arts Center. We would not be here without the incredible help of our volunteers. We have opportunities for all ages, capabilities, and interests here at LCAC.
